Mary, thank you for your nice comments.

I'm afraid you may be showing your age by admitting to remembering the old shop in Wigan. We moved from there to Ashton-in-Makerfield (the current site) in 1982. Behind the small shop was a workshop where the saddlery was made and repairs were done. the whole shop probably wouldn't fit within the saddlery section of our current Superstore at Ashton.

We have a picture here at our head office (by H Walder) of the old iron bridge that used to cross the railway at Wigan North Western station, painted in the 1930's. In the foreground, you can make out a sign on a shop that says 'Robinsons Saddlery'.

Although there was no café, across the road (Wallgate), you'd find Poole's pies, the definitive Wigan pie shop, sadly no longer with us.

I'm getting hungry just thinking about it...

The first time I shopped at Robinsons it was under a railway arch in Wigan.
I remember it well.
It was like an aladdins cave for horsey folks.
got my first saddle from there.
there wasn't a cafe or the choice like there is now.
My daughter loves to go to your shop and loves the sales.
